// About Us

Unlike most student publications, LX News is an independent newspaper unaffiliated to any student unions, a status that allows us to remain a trusted and credible student news source in Liverpool. Despite this, we are privileged to hold strong ties to The University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University and Liverpool Hope University.

Owned and published by LX News Ltd, LX News was formed in August 2007 by current University students who noticed a lack of student print media in Liverpool. The result was the production of a fortnightly newspaper, made available to students across all three city-based Universities and two Higher Education Colleges.

Its aim is to cover the main news stories amongst the student population in Liverpool, as well as to increase students’ awareness of wider national and global issues. We also provide coverage of entertainment and lifestyle news aimed at the 16-26 demographic.

LX News’ first issue came out in November 2007 and since then we have come a long way. Our print run has increased from 5,000 to 10,000 copies and it is now distributed to 150 points across the city, including exclusively to John Moores Student Union and all student halls.

In April 2008, LX News launched its own desktop news ticker. Based on the success of the BBC News Ticker, LX News in partnership with MioPlanet Technologies, became the first student newspaper in the UK to commission and launch a student-focused desktop news ticker, making it easier for its readers to keep up-to-date with the latest news.
