STUDENTS FINED FOR FIRE ALARMS HOAX

Two university students in Liverpool have been fined for setting off fire alarms in student accomodation.

In the first incident, a foreign exchange student at Liverpool University activated a dry powder extinguisher while visiting student halls in Opal Court, London Road, setting off the alarms.

The second involved a John Moores University student, who was a guest at the Unite Grand Central student accommodation, next to Liverpool’s Lime Street station, and activated a fire alarm. Both incidents led to firefighters having to attend.

Terry Clarry, from Merseyside fire service, said: “The vast majority of students are as frustrated as we are about these anti-social behaviour problems.”

The fire service says that on average it recieves a malicious call to student accomodation once every three days.
