It’s clear from the opening seconds of this new album that WAS have changed their direction – the straightforward indie pop of their debut has been dropped in favour of epic, electronic soundscapes. However, their new direction seems a touch confused, with the band taking in as many different genres as possible, chopping and changing between nostalgia-tinged ‘80s synth-pop and angular progressive rock, with a horn section thrown in for good measure. Nothing is especially bad, just a bit directionless and lacking in depth – the band proving itself to be jack of all trades, master of none.
