1. Fancy Dress Perhaps this goes without saying, but fancy dress is a must for any self-respecting student(or not as the case may be!), and Liverpool leaves you with no excuse, as there are a range of places where ridiculous outfits can be purchased. Smiffy’s on Bold Street offers a treasure trove of guises, as does the overflowing rails of Lili Bizarre on Hardman Street.
2. Swanky Cocktails at the Albert Dock This one might take a bit of forward planning / saving up, but experiencing the exclusive bars situated in the historic Albert Dock is definitely worth it. Circo is a relatively new establishment which boasts an awesome interior based on the glamour of the circus, and a cocktail menu to match (the Candy Floss Martini being a particular favourite). Babycream is perfect for couples who can recline against pillows barefoot on bench-style chaise longue seating on the mezzanine level, and you’re guaranteed to spot a celeb or two!
3. Eat at Puschka A small, intimate restaurant tucked away on Rodney Street, Puschka is somewhat of a hidden gem. With the use of free range/organic produce, farmed locally, the menu is pretty wide ranging from risottos to monkfish, and from steak to hand dived scallops. The desserts are also to die for! More pricey than your average student dining experience, but definitely worth it for a special occasion. Call 0871 2079139 to make a reservation.
4. Take a ride on the Yellow Duckmarine The fun begins the second you board your DUCK - an authentic World War II landing vehicle - at the Albert Dock, and your hour-long trip begins by taking in the historic Waterfront, touring the famous sights of the City, and then making a dramatic “SPLASHDOWN” in the Salthouse Dock. It’s a trip you’ll never forget! Tours depart approximately every hour, 7 days a week from 10.30am. Students £8.95 off-peak, £10.95 peak - tickets available by telephone on 0151 708 7799.
5. Dirrrty Dancing @ Chibuku Bored with the same old night out at Heebies or L’ago? Then Chibuku could be for you. John Moores University final year students, Charlene McDaid, Damo Jones and Will Jameson were somewhat disillusioned with the state of affairs in Liverpool’s club scene, hence Chibuku was born from wanting to put on good parties for cool people, and since the night’s inception at the intimate Lemon Lounge it has gone on to establish and consolidate an unprecedented level of success.
