This is one book that I was completely mesmerized by and it kept me constantly in suspense as to what events would come next. If you’re a fan of the Tudors and/or of history in general, then this is definitely a worthwhile read. Written by Philippa Gregory, who also wrote The Boleyn Inheritance, this tale focuses on two sisters’ battle for the best prize yet, the love of Henry VIII. The story is narrated through the eyes of Mary, who is often in the shadows of her infamous elder sister Anne Boleyn. Mary captures the King’s attention at the tender age of fourteen, however this romance does not last for long and soon the King’s affections are transferred to Anne. Mary soon realizes she has been used to the advantage of her family’s sinister plots, and they will stop at nothing to get closer to the throne. Gregory is very accurate in her historic detail and in depth reveals a riveting and gripping story about the secrets and affairs that went on in the Tudor court.
