Students from all over Europe will gather together on the 31st August 2008 in the south of England to begin Europe’s largest rolling student festival - The Student Brake Away. Each team will consist of between 2 and 5 people, a vehicle and an itinerary mapping where each event will take place for everyone to party.
Over six days, five cities will be home to student revelry until it comes to its final destination – an Adriatic island paradise just off the Medulin peninsula in northern Croatia. How and if the teams get there is entirely up to them, but it’s the challenge of navigating over 2000km of foreign tarmac combined with the pure endurance of partying all week that forges the kind of adventures few will ever find on a package holiday.
Debuting in 2006 as The Student Gumball Rally, the event has gone from strength to strength and is now a brand leader in the growth sector of adventure driving tours.
Around 150 teams will take part in 2008, driving anything from Mum’s old shopping car to beach buggies. There are no prizes for driving fast or doing stunts, only for the amount of character, colour and just plain fun people manage to bring to the event.
Teams are encouraged to use their participation in the event to raise money for good causes as well, with over £75,000 risen for charity to date.
The Teenage Cancer Trust will be returning in 2008 as the event’s principle charity, alongside ReachOut, a Manchester based organisation providing support for young children through its student mentoring schemes.
Registration for the event is open until 25th April 2008 and costs £235 per person. For further details please see the website: http://www.studentbrakeaway.com
