Next week, as well as the election of four Student Representative Officers, there will also be for the very first time at Liverpool Guild, elections for the position of Student Trustee. Following the ratification of the new constitution and governance model over the past 2 years, the Guild will be led by a trustee board totalling 12 people, 8 of which are students, ensuring that the organisation keeps to its missions and objectives and has a long term strategy.
There are five candidates running for four available positions. Here’s a look at some extracts from the candidates nomination forms:
Tom Whelligan-Fell
• Current Vice President – Communications of the Guild.
• “For the Guild to be successful we have to be sustainable. I have been active on reforms such as governance changes to ensure that the Guild is sustainable inclusive and accountable”.
Darran Martin
• Current Guild President.
• “With the change over on August 1st to the new governance model, the student community will be able to get involved with an organisation that will be flexible and open to try and ensure all students can get involved”.
Gemma Jerome
• Current Student Councillor
• “I am unique and the personality and skills I can offer as a trustee are diverse[…] as a mature student I can understand diversity includes age”.
Rob Parkes
• Current President of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) group.
• “My devotion to equality is a central part of my campaign - Wanting fairness in our Guild, University….every voice being heard!”
Ronald Madzikanda
• Current Student Councillor.
• “I have seen the changes in the Guild and want to be part of the team”.
Voting for this election takes place at the same time as the Student Representative Officer. Polling stations open next week 3rd-7th March.
