R.I.P.

WE REVIEW NEW AUTHOR’S MACABRE OFFERING

When I first picked up R.I.P., the first novel by Wavertree author Alicia Rose, I didn’t know what to expect. Billed as, ‘a dark thriller,’ I was hooked after the first couple of pages. The storyline is intriguing and swift moving. Literally a real page turner, its short chapters encourage you to read on and keep up the quick pace and sense of tension in the story. Without giving the game away, the plot is both sinister and thought provoking. The story of a successful man who, after he is mysteriously attacked on a night out, plunges into depression and loses everything he has; his home, his business and his friends. He finds that the only way to pull himself out of this deep depression is by exploring the moments between life and death, taking pictures of others ending their own lives and all the time imagining that an exhibition of these images will bring him infamy. It’s a multifaceted novel, documenting not only the protagonist’s strange existence but exploring him psychologically and raising many moral questions. Well worth a read.
