There are whisperings of big things for Karima Francis, a Manchester based singer-songwriter who spent six weeks recording her to-be-released debut album at Parr Street studios in the summer.
Liverpool - impressions?
It’s amazing. I think I’ll live here one day.
What sort of sound are you looking for with this album?
It’s got a really fresh sound, so much soul. It’s quite like Jeff Buckley in the way that the drums drag you through the music.
You started out as a drummer, how did the singer-songwriter transformation come about?
Just by chance. When I picked up the guitar I got addicted and the melodies all started coming. It weren’t cos I was bored of sitting at the back drumming though!
Your singing makes you dizzy and can make you forget where you are. Similar to a heavy night‘s drinking then?
(Laughs)…no. When I drink I don’t feel sick and dizzy I just get in a funny mood! I don’t know what I’d compare it to. Your body turns into another way of dealing with things.
Future plans?
I’m trying to get onto the Ray Lamontagne tour. I’d just love the album to be top ten. I just want people to be open minded enough to accept that they’re good songs. Cos it’s truthful what I’m doing. It’s not fake in anyway and I hope that people see that.
