CAPTAIN PLANET SAYS ‘DO YOU REALLY WANT A BAG WITH THAT?’

Captain Planet died out in the nineties but fortunately the new recycling bins of Liverpool are here to help save our planet from pollution. This scheme is being provided in order that the city’s residents should be able to recycle even more tins and bottles . Soon we will be building empires from recycled cans. On behalf of Captain Planet, I would like to stop you for a moment and suggest that we should be trying to REDUCE the amount of waste we put in these bins. Recycling is third in the environmentalists mantra ‘Reduce, reuse, recycle’, and this isn’t by chance. It is the least beneficial to our environment. Recycling involves high-energy processes that create a lot of carbon emissions. Reusing things requires no carbon-output; plastic bags are an obvious example. But, do you even need that plastic bag in the first place? Say no and that’s one less bag the manufacturer has to source materials for, produce and deliver to the store. So Planeteers, get on the low-waste diet; you’ll be dropping carbon footprint sizes in no time.
