SHOWTIME

It’s finally here! After 4 years in the making and £146 million later, the Liverpool Echo Arena was finally showcased last night to 8,000 specially invited guests, including our own Editor-in-Chief and Photo Editor.

The impressive 10,600 seat Echo Arena and 1,350 seat BT Convention Centre located on the Kings Dock is the centre piece of the Capital of Culture celebrations, having attracted many high-profile events to the city, including the MTV Awards in November.

Designed by multi-award winning architects Wilkinson Eyre, the ACC building is set to be one of the ‘greenest’ developments of its kind in Europe. It will produce half the CO2 emissions and 20% less electricity of a traditional building.

Commenting on the opening of the Echo Arena, Francisco Esteves, Editor-in-Chief of LX News, said “The building looks amazing and clearly in a different league to similar sites, such as the M.E.N. Arena for example. Liverpool has needed a venue like this for years and I’m glad it’s finally finished”.

As well as a showcase event for guests, last night was an opportunity for Arena staff to get a feel for the place and work out what last minute improvements need to be made for the big events next week.
