LIVERPOOL MUSIC WEEK, CARLING ACADEMY 30/11/07
As a last minute addition to the bill tonight, you could have forgiven opening act 28 Costumes being a little rough around the edges. This is, after all, the second night of Liverpool Music Week, recognising and celebrating talent from around the city and beyond. Up and coming they may be, but certainly not rough around the edges. Next up: more local talent in the form of goFASTER>>, peddling their brand of spiky indie pop to an appreciative audience. Soon to go on a mini tour with the Wombats and Elle S’appelle, you can catch these lads on their return to Liverpool towards the end of December. Hot Club De Paris take to the stage next, returning to Liverpool fresh from recording their second album in Chicago the band sound re-invigorated and certainly hold the audience’s attention. Finally, our host for the evening, XFM’s John Kennedy introduces the headliners, and the fans are ready for it, the youngsters dancing and singing along at the front, the older scenesters tapping their winkle pickers and nodding their heads approvingly towards the back. Good Shoes are on form tonight, and complete with an airing of new track ‘Standby’, deliver a blistering set. Closing with crowd pleaser ‘All In My Head’ the South Londoners have set a tone going into the first weekend of Music Week; that of brilliantly executed irreverent indie-pop.
