NEW SURVEY SHOWS PUPILS FROM PUBLIC SCHOOLS MORE LIKELY TO GET UNIVERSITY PLACES
A recent survey of Russell Group university applications has shown pupils attending private schools are more likely to gain university places than those at state schools. The Russell Group is a collection of twenty research-led British Universities, including the University of Liverpool.
The survey, undertaken by the Independent Schools Council (ISC), reviewed the acceptance rates of pupils at 139 schools. Acceptance rates of pupils at ISC schools has risen to 65.6%, however the average rate at Russell Group universities lies at just 13%. Jonathan Shephard, ISC chief executive, said: “These results show the superb job done by ISC schools in preparing pupils for entry to leading universities”. However, Russell Group Universities have been criticised for not allowing enough places to be taken by pupils from state schools.
