REVIEW: SPACEPORT’S SCI-FI AT THE MOVIES EXHIBITION

NEWEST VISITORS TO THE WIRRAL FROM A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY

The science fiction genre has long infiltrated the film industry with phenomenal success. Spaceport’s unique ‘Sci-fi at the Movies’ exhibition allows visitors to explore this fascinating supernatural world. An extensive array of sci-fi trivia questions, chronological film charts and the ‘history of Marvel comics’ satisfies an inquisitive mind whilst the cinema room entertains viewers with a continuous series of clips from popular science fiction films. Impressive replica models of infamous characters ranging from RoboCop and Spiderman to Gollum and Predator bring the genre to life, rendering a seemingly elusive world tangible to visitors. The ‘Star Wars Zone’ epitomises the exhibition, where life size figurines of Jabba the Hutt and Chewbacca are juxtaposed against the imminent presence of Darth Vader through a number of famous sound bites. The experience provides a stimulating and thorough insight into the science fiction genre. Immersed in such a surreal and abstract surrounding, the expression ‘I want to believe’ resounds clearly in the imagination.

Spaceport’s Sci-fi at the Movies Exhibition runs until 30th March 2008 www.spaceport.org.uk/space-visit/special.aspx
