OUR PRE-FIGHT INSIGHTS
Rarely has a fight in recent times had such a huge billing as this one. With the interest in boxing having been on the wane for many years, Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton and Floyd Mayweather have awoken the world to the wonders of the sport once again. With two differing styles, this fight has the potential to live up to expectation. In front of a crowd of 16,000 in Las Vegas, the outcome of this fight will see one of the boxers emerge with their ‘undefeated’ title in tatters. Indeed it is this billing that has so many people engrossed in this clash along with the intriguing mind games that have taken place in recent weeks.
Mayweather has been quick to crank up the pressure: “I can quit today and be known as the best fighter that ever lived. I respect what Robinson and Ali did for the sport. But I am the greatest, and this is my time.” With such bold claims it is hardly surprising that Hatton has stayed quiet during the pre-fight build up. Unlike Mayweather, the Hitman has let others do the talking for him, with trainer Billy Graham ridiculing Mayweather’s comments: “If Floyd’s not concerned about Ricky, he’s a fool.”
Although this pre-fight build-up helps to attract viewers and much needed attention to the sport, all of Ricky Hatton’s talking will be done in the ring on December 8th, and if the build up is anything to go by, it will not disappoint.
