Tragic events unfold after night out
Students throughout Liverpool remain in shock after a student was murdered in the early hours of 15th November. Sion Hardy, aged 24 from Bangor in North Wales, was attacked after leaving a student night at Nation nightclub on Wolstenholme Square, Liverpool. Sion was a third year civic design student at The University of Liverpool.
The University said ”Sion was well-known and well-liked and had a close group of friends within the department of Civic Design. He was a very able student who would have gone on to a promising career in Planning”.
Paramedics took Sion to Royal Liverpool Hospital where he later died from his injuries. Merseyside police say he was involved in an argument shortly before the attack. The incident is said to have taken place in a tunnel leading from Turnage Square.
Initially, four men were questioned on suspicion of murder; two of the men are from Aigburth aged 20 and 22, the other two from Everton and aged 20 and 21. Police were aided in their inquiries by CCTV footage of the area.
Subsequently, on the 17th November 21 year old Simon Taylor from Everton, a building student at Liverpool John Moores University, appeared in court accused of murder. He spoke only to confirm his name and address and was remanded in custody. Three others remain on police bail.
”The University [of Liverpool] is offering every possible support to his friends and other students who may have been affected by the news and is working closely with Merseyside Police in support of the investigation”.
