New clothing line launched by students causes a buzz
Ever drunkenly staggered over to the cash point on your way down to Meds only to be confronted with a bank balance of a big fat zero? And we all know how fun student jobs are! Slaving away in Subway at 4.00am while two tipsy teens squabble over who gets the first bite of the meatball marinara is far from riveting.
Yet for students Will Woodward and Simon Hanlon from Chester, money issues are no longer a problem. One night back in 2006, disheartened with having no money, the friends came up with an idea of designing their own clothing range. Determined to make their dream reality, the guys took a gamble by investing their savings and created a clothing company, which they later called Phitt. With Phitt clothing hopefully hitting shops in Liverpool and Manchester in the next couple of months, Managing Director Will, who plans on attending Liverpool University next September, is ecstatic. He explains that as well as to make some extra cash he had a desire ‘to express a style to others’ and hopes to pursue a career in marketing in the near future.
The most notable items of the range are the Diamond Hoodies, which have become somewhat of a fashion item around Cheshire. However, Phitt clothing also includes a cool collection of polo shirts, hats, t -shirts and accessories for both men and women.
2007 has been a tremendous year for ‘Phitt’ who are already successful enough to sponsor various extreme athletes such as Roller bladers Mike Salt and Lee Deveroux and wake boarder Sami Fillsell. With a remarkably impressive launch party in Abersoch this July that featured DJ’s from Wakestock Festival the future is looking very bright for the boys. As well as teaming up with Ice Events for further launches of their range, Phitt are now planning an up and coming event with Breeze Promotions for 2008 with head line acts to hopefully include DJ Jay Stone ( ministry of sound, Pacha) DJ Olster (Atlantic records) and DJ Joshua Roberts (Radio 1s young DJ of the year). Taking place at Maze in Chester, the event is highly anticipated after the last Phitt launch sold out in just half an hour.
The clothes can be purchased from the website www.phitt.co.uk, sponsored events and additionally in skate shops and surf shops such as Offaxis and Kreation roll. Prices range from 14 to 18 pounds for a t-shirt or polo shirt and up to 35 pounds for a hoodie.
