Cats is one of the longest running performances in the West End; written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the musical allows you to be transformed into the magical, enthralling world of the cats.
It was a truly spectacular performance and visually pleasing with the amazing and yet convincing costumes and make up displayed by the cats. The dancing was extremely well choreographed and synchronized; each and every one of the actors gave a magnificent performance and impressed me with their incredible vocal range.
The actors imitated the agility of a cat very realistically, with the opening scene of them slowly creeping out of their hiding places one by one, and then later out into the audience, which allowed great interaction between actors and audience.
Grizabella, the cat who is an outcast of the group, was played by Chrissie Hammond, who gave an excellent performance with her breath taking version of Webber’s ‘Memory’, which was extremely emotive and sad.
One moment that cannot go unmentioned is the dazzling presence of Mr. Mistoffelees, (Craig Turbyfield) as he was brought down onto the stage by a tightrope and there performed his magical talents. The lighting was also extraordinary displaying a fantastic colour palette evoking the mood of the scene.
Cats is an outstanding musical in all aspects, I’m just glad I have managed to see it twice!
