The band rocked the M.E.N Arena on the 7th of November
2007 marks Stereophonics’ tenth year in the business, a somewhat remarkable feat considering the nature of today’s indie market, where acts conquer the charts one minute, and fade into obscurity the next.
Thousands of fans packed out the M.E.N arena, and things got off to a dynamic start with support coming from Coventry kids The Enemy who are already shooting to stardom themselves, with a hit album under their guitar straps.
However, the volume was turned up several notches both on and off stage when the Phonics appeared. Despite a recent run-in which left his guitar-playing arm in a state (narrowly avoiding a potential career-ending injury), singer Kelly Jones was back on top form. The band as a whole appeared like a newly formed outfit, stomping around the stage with vigour. The crowd matched the band’s energy throughout, jumping around to a setlist crammed with classics such as The Bartender and The Thief and Pick A Part That’s New, slowing down with the mellow It Means Nothing before coming to a close with the rip-roaring Dakota.
At the end of the night, this girl was left sweaty with sore feet from bouncing about and soles sticking to the beer-soaked floor. It’s rock and roll – but I loved it.
